Cambodia

Since 2009, malaria incidence, cases, and deaths in Cambodia have all decreased. Despite the successes, artemisinin resistance and mobile populations remain challenges to reaching national elimination goals. The Cambodian Malaria Elimination Action Framework 2016–2020 has the ultimate goal of national elimination of P. falciparum and multidrug-resistant malaria by 2020. In 2016, Cambodia moved from control to elimination activities concentrated in 18 operational districts in the northwest of Cambodia. The National Malaria Program will develop evidence-based approaches that can be scaled up to these 18 operational districts targeting elimination. PMI supports this national strategy and has been funding a pilot elimination package model in one district.

Malaria Operational Plans

The Malaria Operational Plans below are detailed 1-year implementation plans for PMI focus countries. Each plan reviews the current status of malaria control and prevention policies and interventions, identifies challenges and unmet needs to achieve PMI goals, and provides a description of planned PMI-funded activities. Each Malaria Operational Plan has been endorsed by the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator and reflects collaborative discussions with the national malaria control programs and partners in country. Changes to these plans are reflected in revised postings.
