Biomedical Center Gets Modern Mosquito Lab

Sep 17, 2014 | The New Times

Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) yesterday launched a standard identification laboratory for mosquitoes and other parasites. The lab will enable effective and certain control of malaria epidemic and other parasitic diseases.

The new facility comes as the country is pushing to achieve a malaria-free nation by 2018. Malaria morbidity currently stands at 9 percent, while the mortality rate stands at 4 percent. Through the laboratory, Rwanda will be able to test new insecticides (for indoor residual spraying) and make new discoveries about mosquito species and drugs.
