Helen Onen is a community-based distributor of medicines in Ongaka Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in northern Uganda, created in 1996 by the Ugandan government as a safe haven for civilians caught in the middle of a civil war. Mrs. Onen helped distribute long-lasting insecticide-treated nets to families with children under-5 in the camp during a PMI-supported net distribution campaign in March 2006, targeting children under-5. PMI has distributed 260,000 nets in camps throughout northern Uganda. “With the net distribution, I have noticed that fewer patients have come to visit me, and the families who have received the nets have reported [fewer] malaria cases,” she said. |
